I agree with "ke6dcj", you should not have to remove the axle.

It's been years since I replaced the accumlators on our '95 wagon, but I know I did not remove the axles. I put the back of the car on ramps and replaced them w/o incident other than a significant dowsing in hydraulic fluid.

It is very helpful to start threading the hydraulic lines into the accumulators prior to bolting them to the frame.
