Four quarts is plenty enough to do the job. Two quarts for the flushing and a couple more will then be enough to refill.

Do NOT get the bright idea to flush with solvent. Remember, the pump has metal to metal parts that move at high speed. A solvent will destroy the pump. Use p/s fluid only for the flush.
