For all the good equiptment you have hooked to it the thing you really need is a scanner that will talk to the trans. I have never heard of the code proceedure that you describe giving a code 11. I would not imagine that car to have any impulse type codes. You need to see some actual values I would think. Do you have access to a CS2000 or AST retriever?
As far as I have heard the Snap-on will only do OBDII and engine management. This might include transmission but I doubt it.
Since the code comes before you move I would expect a power or connection problem.
Seams like I remember a service bulletin on the rpm sensor but it could have been a BMW bulletin - something about its mounting.
