Funny, I made a similar comparison back in September. I was all set to spend the last Thursday and Friday of the month finding out just how cheap I could get an '05 Aveo. I was hoping for $6700-7000 plus tax.
That Tuesday a 190DT was wrecked by a teenager. I thought about it for a bit, and decided I'd much rather have a 201 turbo with 200k on it than a new Aveo. I picked up the car that weekend and started looking for a straight chassis and 5 speed. Ended up buying a 2.3-16 with ACC, CC, and SLS issues. Total cost with everything fixed should be around $4-5k, and I will have lots of parts and a good 16v engine to sell to recoup my costs.
