Nobody really needs the megapixels they are packing in now.
I printed massive 12 X 17 prints from my 1 megapixel
and there was no grain visible.
The thing to focus on is the lens.
Get a glass lens, if you can.
An optical zoom is nice.
Digital zoom is nothing more than you can do yourself, in photoshop.
I bought a $1200 Sony years ago... ( for about $1000 )
Finally killed it and now I just use a $99 Radio Shack special and it's fine.
