The part may very well be original. Just because a part number begins with another chassis number does not mean that it can not work on your car. If the part number starts with 123, I have been instructed that is the chassis that the part originated on, however, thats not always correct because it could have been converted to a new number when the part was modified for that chassis ect...

Its best to make contact with Mercedes Benz to see of that part is original and also to see if the part has changed numbers now that it is 20 years later.
