One of the local MB shops had a very nice I think it was a 1993 300SD. Anyway similer 603. The guy had let his wife drive it and a hose let go, she kept driving.
The temp sending unit melted out of the head!
The shop owner had it on his desk as his new paper weight!
The engine was gone, the pistons had scored the liners and the head was warped like some cheap lumber. When I was there he was pricing out rebuilds, I don't know what eventually came of it.
