I've had the same problem on my 99 clk430. The dealer told me that there is a motor on the back of the seat that runs that particular seat function. It is a $200+ part so I'm waiting to replace it. You could take the motor off the working side seat and put it on the nonworking one to be sure that it is the problem. Let me know if that ends up being the fix...
