I'm ready to change the idler arm bushings in my 91 300SE. It sure looks like one of the exhaust down pipes will keep the big bolt from coming out. AFAIK
the exhaust system has never been replaced. Can someone who's done this job on this chassis and engine combination confirm that the bolt can be extracted without futzing with the exhaust manifold?
If I can't get the bolt out, is it safe to drive the car with a retightened bolt? It won't all fall apart if I retorque it to 180Nm?
