the smell may be coming from the return lines. are they nice new grey with a brown stripe and fuzzy or black and oozing fuel? if the latter they need changing. possibly a loose injector fuel line. are they tight?
from where in the engine area does the noise come from. off hand i can think of a couple items that have bearings that may cause a noise.
