11 hours..

Ok so they want $1000 labor .....$1000 in parts.
How much do you want to spend? ...or need to spend....
No.you dont need to remove the injectors. But again now would be the time ...soak then in carb cleaner ...calibrate them ...new sealing rings etc
Injectors and timing ....critical for Diesel performance ...................
This is a very intracate engine after all it is a Mercedes!
Believe me, when this thing is set up right .... it really runs!
First check the timing chain strech.......Do you need to replace it now?
177,000 Mi ....was it changed before? if not, it might be time.
A compression test would be the next step.
... My compression tool connects to the glow plug hole..
You need to remove the intake to do it......
I dont know of a tool that fits the injector hole...
Evaluate it from that point....
Even compression = very good
Next ...Pull the head....you need to fix the leak...
Pulling the head will tell a whole lot more about the condition of the engine...
Check the cylinders....How do they look ? Is there a ridge on the upper cylinder wall.....?? Do you see "scuff marks" in the cylinders? Than maybe just valve seals and a gasket and drive it ....
Evaluate it from that point....
As you answer each question that will determin how far need to go.
Good compression...Can you still see the factory cross-hatch...thats a very good sign....
If the cylinders show little wear then GO FOR IT! Complete valve job, chain, new lifters, etc.
Discuss in detail with your man BEFORE you tear it down.
Note: This camshaft is hollow ...so there is a special procedure to remove and install it.
It can break like a piece of glass.
Again... Ez... It depends on the car..... it it really nice?
Do you enjoy driving it?
I did lots of work to my 91 350SD ..... I drive and enjoy it! Not to mention it always get a trophy at the car shows .....
