Imagine if you will a place not of space or time, but of the mind. A place where conversations exist in the form of symbols on a display. They go on endlessly, and nothing ever changes. A place where there is little but the exchange of un-yielding insistence with spacklings of wit, humor and original ideas. A place where the sole marker of time passing, a thing known as a post count has been stopped. Like a non-operational clock on the wall, the post count is lost to the past and all are stuck in a continuum.

Joe Forumember, age unknown, nationality, unknown, belief system stated to the nth degree by the purchase of a used Mercedes vehicle, in an attempt to enjoy one of the finer things life has to offer. The Mercedes was problematic, teaching Joe the harsh lesson that finer things are often just a façade for the sink hole that is materialism. In his search for solutions to his problem, Joe first turned to Mercedes dealers, then with his wallet stinging and the list of failures continuing, Joe tries an independent mechanic. The mechanic fared no better than the dealer and Joe’s wallet continued to hemorrhage. Seeking solutions to his woes he searches through a tool called the “Internet” and comes across a place called Mercedesshop.com. Here Joe has found answers to all his car questions. Soon his Mercedes is cured of its problems and his wallet is starting to heal. Joe can show himself to his neighbors as not quite the vain fool he was appearing to be. In fact Joe has found people who enjoy the same things he does! As a result of his losses on his car, Joe has found camaraderie. Things start to get better. Soon Joe is known as a “Senior Member” and his self-esteem grows. Then one day Joe notices that his post count no longer goes up. He feels his self-esteem slightly lowered. Then he notices that no one else’s post count goes up either. With the horror of this revelation fully in his face, he looks to the world around him and notices that no one else even has a post count! This revelation brings relief, and as Joe returns to his beloved forum he hits the new post button and writes….
