at least in the case of my '79 cadillac, given to me by my great-aunt, the order form for the car has a check list of optional items, one of which is 'passenger side view mirror.' the 'decline' box next to it is marked. happily, she did not decline (athough i have no idea why not) the 'heavy-towing package' so it came w/ a 7.0 litre V-8.
awesome engine until you have to fill it up w/ gasoline!
