Don't tell them it's for a Mercedes-Benz if you're going to a auto parts store. Since it's a GM Delco R4 compressor, tell them it's for something like a 1982 Caprice Classic or whatever GM vehicles used it, see if they say it's $300 then.

and R4 compressors are not all the same...there is an oil hole in a bearing or seal that needs to be in a certain orientation. the benz typicly is what would be upside down. Then there is the manifold mounting differences..

Rebuilt ones have a very high failure rate from what I hear...with labor and refridgerant prices to clean up after a "black death" failure I'd rather buy a new one up front. THere have been discussions and threads with photos in the last 2 years.
