Fuel supply problem ?

I have a 2002 ML 270 CDI that has done 125,000 km which suddenly began showing the following symptoms.

First thing in the morning or after many hours of not being driven it starts and stalls immediately. Cranking the engine for 4-5 seconds then gets it to start again and it runs normally.

If it is stopped for anything up to 2 hours, it starts normally.

When it is running, it performs completely normally.

Could there be a problem where fuel pressure is being lost when it is standing for a period of time ? Is this a fuel pump symptom ?

Any advice or ideas would be appreciated.
