Drivetrain slack, including worn flex disks. You should be able to check for this from under the car without dismantling anything.

The other likely possibility is clutch disk chatter. This can be caused by bad springs in the disk, a worn input shaft or pilot bearing, or a less-than-flat flywheel or pressure plate surface. To check these require removing the transmission from the car.
