Good news/bad news
First of all, this could have happened to anybody. It had absolutely nothing to do with Thing One's driving skills.
After the fun with AAA, last night we had Sybill towed to the house and cleaned the damaged area of the oilpan, exposing the fractured front right corner of the sump. Removing the sump extention, allowed us to examine the inside of the pan for loose pieces and to determine the extent of damage too. ...considering that it is a major undertaking to remove the pan, I elected to check in with a long time friend and welder fantastique, Jim Van Krennigen, who has a heliarc shop here in River City to see if he could weld the cracks shut in-situ. I took some digital pics and was a Jim's shop bright and early this am...after a review and discussion, the good news is that he can fix it (well actually, his right hand man, Jesus will be doing the work) without removing the pan. The bad news is that there won't be room in his shop until the week of the 14th.
So, she sits until then.
Let this be a warning to anyone with a 603: watch out for tall curbs in parking lots... the oil sump on the 603 engine sticks out like Dudley DoRight's chin, just asking for a bump (it was obvious that this wasnt the first curb it has touched too). It is a stupid design and IMHO, is simply another example of how engineering and longevity have taken a back seat at DB since the end of the W123's run.
