Thank you, thank you!

I just assumed that since it could be so easily traced to the easiest to fix components, that it made my job a little bit easier! It could be that the box itself is loose, allowing the steering wheel to so easily turn, since repairing things in the column itself would only add resistance to the free play, and not actually fix it.

I have been warned against adjusting the box if fault lies elsewhere, but if the problem were suspension related, would the box not turn sooner, but that movement be 'soaked up' by the loose suspension instead of the box itself?
