w108 engine stalls

Hello everyone!

I am the proud Dad of a '72 280 SE 4.5. The car was given to me by my Godfather after being in storage for 9 years! We are having a bit of a problem in "weaking it up" .

Already cleaned the Gas tank!
Got new fuel pump and fuel filter!
Changed fuel hoses!
New spark plugs!

The car started fine, a bit rough at the begining and smoking like crazy! ran for a bit and then stopped and would not start! Looked at spark plugs and the were black and dirty! Change for new set and started again fine. Even decided to get gas and put more air in tires. At the gas station after putting gas it stopped and would not start again.
I looked at the spark plugs again and they were not as dirty as the first but still black and kind of smell like gas!
Any ideas what to do next to clean all that stuff??
Any help and advice would be great.
Car has only 65 000 miles (two owners) only it has been sitting since 1997 at my god father's warehouse!

Thanks!

Tex
