Smile peeling clearcoat

I tried to cheap out on my 1985 500sel. I had a few clearcoat peeling and chipped areas from door dings ,etc,,thought I could get some paint and laquar from paintmatch.com and do a decent job. welll ,,,that turned out to be just a:thought". Paintmatch did a great job in color and the paint cans worked just fine,,However I could "see" every spot I worked on,,other ppl thought it was just fine,,,I ended up sanding the whole car down, filling, primering basecoat, clearcoating before I was done. Old beast shines like new now.As far as matching your paint and touchup goes,,It depends on what you can live with and how much money and time you are willing to spend. I spent close to $600 in paints and misc sanding stuff, however I already had the compressor,DA sanders and guns.
I consider the effort well spent as I plan on driving my "baby" a few more years.
