You have to remove the center console. Either the cable has loose from the slider, or was separated at the junction during some past repair, or the slider itself is broken and moving freely. When pulling the center console, the uninitiated will often just pull up hard not realizing there is a cable attached. That often breaks the clip & hole tab off the slider control.
