I concur with BC on this. 200K is getting there... both of mine shift well but leak (not sure on the 420, it's not running). Common on the 722s. I've been quoted about $200 for a reseal job which is reasonable IMO, but since I plan to keep the vehicles... may as well go through it while the unit is out.
Keeping the fluid with filter changed 25-30K along with driving in 3rd around town helps keep the wear down by a good deal. No 3-4, 4-3 shifting constantly.
$2600 for a reman unit installed is nuts. You receive the Mercedes tax and it better have a SERIOUS warranty for that amount of green.
