I realized that CarFanatic doesn't list a location, so if his E320 is a non-U.S. version, it could perfectly have the self-levelling rear axle, fitted as an optional extra. Check on the vehicle production card for code "480" in the options list fitted to your car.
There is also a metallic I.D. card bolted near the hood latch where all options fitted to the car are listed, check again for 480. If that number is there, it definitely has self-levelling rear suspension.
In Germany and many other European countries this feature is usually combined with code 550 (Trailer coupling with detachable ball neck.
Another code it may have is 485 (Self-levelling suspension AND stiffer springs and front shock absorbers).
Also, look for the self-levelling hydraulic oil reservoir in the engine compartment (looks the windshield washer reservoir, only it is marked with a sticker that reads "Hydraulic Oil Only").
