i didn't change it because of a couple reasons,1.it was last night 2 i'm 150 miles from the nearest dealer.3 i'm a tightass.well not really,the previous owner told me it had a fuel leak and it would be fixed before i picked it up,well needless to say i was looking under the hood aqnd could see oil running down the fuel thermostat bracket,and got out my trusty mirror and looked under the pump,and MY GOD there must have been a whole tube of grey silicone,and it wasn't doing its job.then i get to the last bolt the back one up against the block and my socket is just a hair too long,well you guessed it the screw strips out,now what,i'm thinking i need a little vise grips,which i don't have here,so go to my tool case i carry on trips and find my little knipex channel locks(which i bought on a trip out to denver to fix my suburban)also might add they are made in west germany.anyway it comes loose,so now i have the cover in my hand,and the seal has one spot where it looks kinda funny so i cleaned it all off with laquer thinner and put down a bead of silicone then put the seal on and then another bead on top of it,then took my finger and went around it to get all the excess off,and back on she went,so we'll see if the leak is fixed tonight,i want to warm it up so i can change the oil,and i need to pull the bellypan and clean about 2qts of oil out of it.oh i might add yes beer is required for this operation,i think close to a six pack bit the dust,and most of em were on that last bolt.
