I beg your pardon. 52 HP. Useful? Well, is it useful to get 49MPG on your normal daily commute to work and then pick up 10 or 12 bags of concrete on the way home or half a dozen sheets of plywood? Is it a real he-man's diesel- of course not, but I have toted an OM616 engine in the bed of one. Its also a near-perfect WVO pickup barge. I put some old Renault Fuego seats (remember those) in it for comfort (the frogs DO make good seats). The cars are simple to rebuild, parts are cheap and plentiful. They only made about 58,000 of the Caddy (PU) variant from 80-84 only in the US.

I would say that acceleration is a bit more sprightly that a 240D stick. Some guys will drop a later VW turbodiesel in to improve performance. Actually, mines about to hit 350,000 miles.
