RF is for the door lock and unlock and does nothing for the Convenience stuff, that is InfraRed only. The Infrared is also there as a backup to the RF. The RF is in the rear glass.
Most likely you have a bad door sensor for the IR. Since it works on the passenger side and not driver. Or it could be a bad door module, but if all else works in the door then I doubt that. If the sun is shining at the IR sensor it will not work well. My IR only works from about 3 foot from the door and has to be aimed right at the handles.
