Nope, you can unplug the battery and it will reset. I do know this will work on early OBDII cars and it works on my 1995 C280 (with OBDII).
Just unhook the battery for a minute or two. I know there is a way to just unplug some fuses for a minute or two, but don't know which ones for your car.
