Easy to check some bits of it.... pull the fader out and short it to send the signal direct to the rear speakers. ;-)

Dont know about a 190E, but I'd imagine its similar to an E class. Pull the carpet up from the centre console (just grab it), undo the screw. Then remove the plastic ring around the gear selector and it just comes off. Didnt realise the fader was on this bit though!

Also, have you got an amp in the car? Its ground may have been disturbed when the alarm was added.
