Location has a lot to do with price too , the used car lot next to my shop here in an industrial area just got in a tan 560SL , only 56K original miles , decent paint with a few scratches , floppy sunvisors and NO hard top , I'm pretty sure they got it from the original owner's garage as it was a bit dusty and the alternator belt was in shreds , it sold in three days for under $4K .
If it had been a 280 or 350 , I'da bought it as it was -very- clean & would have made a great daily driver .
I agree , mostly these cars are fashion statements here in La La Land , I like to drive my old 350SLC -hard- and I think it corners O.K. in the twisty canyons ~ certainly I can easily outrun most of the poreurs in thier Porsche's etc.
I look forward to some long touring in it , just came back from Sta. Fe , NM and wished I'd taken that instead of my brother's pristine 300SD .
If you can , sit on this jewel untill spring and then it'll sell itself I imagine , remember : ' there's an a$$ for every seat '
