The oil flow through the cooler is also controlled by a thermostat IIRC. My oil cooler gets hot pretty fast after running a bit. Check the threads on the cooler. If the threads are stripped in the cooler, I believe you will need to replace it. I would check with Jeremy in Oklahoma, or another wrecking yard before buying a brand new one.
