as a young man, I worked in a front end shop in the early 80's and my boss would strangle me to death if I brought a pickle fork into the shop.
he always loosened the tie rod nut a good 1/4" down, then whacked the side of the tie receiver. the rods almost always popped out on the first whack.
I've been doing it that way my whole life. tie rods, ball joints. everything.
of course, I have never done it on a MB...
