Some cars with timing belts that have the water pump driven by the belt (many Hondas) it is prudent to change the pump when you change the belt.

MB engines are quite different in that they al have chains, the water pump is driven by the accessory belt, and has no need to be changed along with other compentents. Change it when it begins to leak or squeal, as that means it is on the way out.
