Yes, in a prior life, I was one.
Won't do any good on a Maytag, a 17 yo model would be front serviced.
Try these things:
- Check the self-leveling feet in the rear. Sometimes they rust-up and won't level comepletely. Rock the machine forward onto it's front and then let it drop back. That usually gets them repositioned.
- If it doesn't have the leveling feet, make sure all the feet are screwed up into the base. These machines have a tendency to rock a little and, over time, the feet unscrew little by little and get too far out making it a bit wobbly on it's pins.
- If your floor is wood, make sure it isn't rotted out under one of the back feet.
- Open the lid and see if the basket is centered in the opening. If it is off center one of the tub springs is broken or a tub support arm is rusted out. Either way, you need to plan on buying a new washer.
