rebuilding a slave cylinder

I pulled out the clutch slave cylinder in my 84 190e. I cleaned it up with clean brake fluid as Haynes says to do, lubed it well. The piston seems real tight. Is this normal? When I pushed it down, it took a lot more pressure than the spring could give. Should I hone the cylinder? Could I blow out the master seals now? I've heard that you should rebuild the master when you do the slave. Is that why?

Thanks for any input, Mike
