I picked up a neat cupholder in Pep Boys last Fall. It is called the "Octopus" and it is clever. It fit in the console nicely with just a slight trim of both sides of the base. I used an xacto knife. It "snaps" in place at the bottom of the console plastic by the console carpet. Comes out in seconds. It has a slot on one side for a cup handle. The plastic "wires" in the center fit any cup. You can put the console down and it's close, but does not cover it. Put the SL away before I actually tested it, but I think it will be fine. I used one of these in my 65 mustang where it sat on the console. Holds a cup fine, and is a bit weighted at the base. Cost less than $10.
