I put my breaker bar + hex socket onto the diff in the right spot, then I used my hydraulic jack to lift the breaker bar....rear of the car went way up...then it went "pop!" and settled back down, plug was loose. Did this for both cars, worked great.

As for the smell. The mobil 1 synthetic stuff smells like natural gas...its weird.
