I'm looking at the relevant picture in the parts book for the 1972 models. It shows the defroster switch as being one integral unit. Did you open yours up and extract this bit ?
The switch box is either 001 821 6151 or 001 821 8251, depending on if it has 3 contacts or 4, respectively.
