It is a PITA. I dunno if there is a secret but the DIY on here was pretty much on spot. You want to get the end of the spring into the groove. I then used 2 small screw driver (eye glasses size) one to hold the end in the groove and the other was then run around the circumference of the spring. Compressing the spring is real easy. When you pull it out laterally the circumference shrinks. Its a fine juggling act of holding with one screw driver, rotating the other to push the spring in all while pulling outwards on the spring to get it in there. Once you get the first 1/4-1/2 of the spring in there the spring will hold it self. Keep rotating with the screw driver and it just pops in there.

Specifically the reason why I HIGHLY suggest getting a voodoo3 or other MBC. Much easier to turn the thing in and out a few turns than dealing with that stupid retaining spring. Also the stock waste gate starts bleeding WAAAAY before you hit max psi. With the MBC I get little or no bleed all the way up to 13psi.
