It sounds as if the 3 to 4 shift valve in the valve body is sticking. This is something that could be fixed by adding an additive, but I would use LUCAS Transmission fix available at most parts store. However, change your fluid and filter first if you haven't done so already! Although most additives say they can restore old worn out fluids, NOTHING can do this job EXCEPT fro a fluid change with filters,OK? I've found LUCAS GIRLING products to be some of the best.
