Auxilary fan problem HELP it's HOT

Ok first off the car is a 1982 300D. The auxilary cooling fan does not come on with the temp sensor at the thermostat grounded. It does however come on when I close the loop at the AC temp sensor at the filter drier. I have a voltage at the wire leading to the temp switch at the thermostat housing ranging from 3.25 to around 13 volts. The voltage is there even when I remove the relays located on the left fender well. Engine temps are getting to nearly 100 degrees. Is that hot enough to make the temp sensor ground the circut?

Now what?
