You were asking about the wrinkly, crumbley interior upholstery vinyl on the door window surrounds? Correct? Not the rubber seals and gaskets.
Hmm, good question that never really bothered me enough to research until now...remove 'em and paint solution is a non-starter option for me.

Does anyone KNOW how they were originally attached?
What it is that breaks down and allows them to "ruffle"?
Is there a Ma Benz recommended fix?
Are replacement materials/parts available?
Finally, has anyone actually replaced these and have tips to share?
