I have a "97 with over 60K miles and when I replaced the fuel filter I took the old one apart only to discover that there was absolutely no debrie or other wise dirt etc. trapped. I conclude that the fuel filter hardly needs to be changed if you drive mainly in the US. I have never had a contaminated filter in any of my much used cars. Therefore I usually don't think these filters have to be replaced until maybe 150K. Let me know if you find your original filter dirty. Thanks.
