The fuel guage on my 1998 E320 started registering about 7/8 to 3/4 full after a complete fill up. This happened after it was about 5 or 6 months old, but prior to that it worked fine. The dealership is going to look at it the next time I take it in for service. Based on various comments about this problem that I have seen, and a discussion with my salesman, I think the newer model fuel guage is not up to Mercedes standards. The dial looks like the old Benz, but I think they are completely redesigned and poorly at that. It appears that a high number of the newer models have this guage problem. The salesmen said the fuel tank is pressurized and that also contributes to the fuel guage failure problem. Is that a possiblilty? Unless Mercedes redesigns the quages, we might be faced with inaccurate readings that could be costly to fix once the cars are out of warranty.
