I would not try it with the wider tires as it is not like trying on a set of tires. If they do rub the fenders it will not just take off a bit of undercoating, but will shread the fender!  I would be careful! You could check if it fits the tires easy enough but I would not want to check fender clearance by just trying, I think it is smart to ask.
