I have some slack in my shift lever. When I shift from Park to R I have to move it a little further before the transmission engages. When the transmission is either in D or R I can slightly move the lever back and forth without taking the transmission out of either D or R.

How can that slack be ajusted? -and how much of the car do I have to take apart?

Oh, this is on an '87 560SL.
