Nope. Producers use everything but the
moo.
However, I wouldn't be surprised to find that most of the hides used in upholstery come from countries other than the USA. Hides here can be pretty beat-up from barbed wire, thorns etc. European hides are supposedly upholstery grade.

Alcantara is an artificial covering.
Nappa is actually sheepskin, not cow hide.
