I should be around this evening, so feel free to call if you need the part. The vacuum pump sounds like likely culprit, as power steering pumps don't tend to suddenly go bad. The vacuum pump is driven by the timing chain and uses a spring loaded cam (which is what tends to fly apart violently). Here is a link to a pic of the pump....

Changing the pump is not real difficult, and be sure to get the stuff to do an oil change while you are at it.
