Here is a great power secret I learned first hand the other night on I-70 in Maryland.

Hit something in the road at 75 MPH. Make sure it punctures the left front tire (in the sidewall) and smacks the hell out of the exhaust system.

After changing the tire I started the car and a HUGE cloud of black soot came out. When I hit the pedal to merge back onto the highway I left a smoke screen any PT boat would be proud of. After blowing all that carbon out of the system the engine is MUCH more responsive and the car runs a hell of a lot better and cooler.

Oh, by the way the exhaust system is fine and did not get ripped off the car.

so go ahead bang on those pipes. they can take it and you will be surprised at what is in there after 20 + years!
