One trick you may want to try is to remove the gasket and clean it real good with rubbing alcohol. Then give it a good wipe with a laquer thinner moistened cloth on both sides (you may want to use something less volatile - but I am a Tim the Toolman type - more cleaning power-and dries instantly). Then give it a thin skin of RTV silicone on one side and let dry a few hours. Then put a skin layer on the other side. Hang it up on a wire overnight and re-install the next day. The new coatings will give you a good seal.
