If you put your car in "2" when at rest, I believe 1st gear is engaged. Simply put your left foot on the brake, and slowly apply the accelerator until you reach your desired rpm. Lift of the brake and simultaneously smash the loud pedal, and you're off!

Don't forget to shift to "3" if you want your car to actually shift into second gear. If you like, once the upshift takes place you can shift back to "2" and control when the 2-3 upshift takes place.
